Biggest lottery jackpots in US history

It will be a happy new year for one person with the only ticket to match all numbers in Tuesday night’s Mega Millions jackpot.

The winning ticket, sold in Glen Head, New York, a Long Island enclave, is worth $425 million according to the Mega Millions website. Seven other players won at least $1 million after matching all but the Mega Ball.

The winning numbers were 34, 44, 57, 62, 70 and Mega Ball 14.

While $425 million or about $254 after-taxes isn’t chump change, it dwarfs last October’s still unclaimed winning Mega Millions ticket which sold in South Carolina for nearly $1.6 billion, the largest single ticket win on record and the second-largest in U.S. lottery jackpot history.
